Nottinghill provides children with a variety of play areas to support their learning. This program is a great introduction to “school” and allows children to explore their independence. Children at Nottinghill do NOT have to be toilet trained to participate in our programs.
Programs: Nottinghill has several programs for 2 year old children. The first, referred to as our 2AM class, is for children who will be 2 years old by December 31st of any given year. This class is available on Mon/Wed or Tues/Thurs from 9-11:30am. The second program is for children who will be 2.5 years old by September 1st of any given year. This program is offered on Tues/Thurs from 9-11:30am with an option of adding a extra class day on Friday (referred to as our 2.5AM class) or on Monday-Thursday from 12:45-3:15pm (referred to as our 3PM program).
Classrooms: Nottinghill has two spacious classrooms, an outdoor playground and access to a gymnasium that provide children with many areas to explore both their fine and gross motor skills. Classrooms include sand and water tables, craft centres, cozy readings centres and a lot of educational toys and puzzles.
Learning Focus: Throughout the year Nottinghill focuses on teaching children self help skills, social interactions, language and cognitive learning through circle time, story time and music with instruments. We introduce letters and numbers through daily play such as adding plastic numbers to the sand table and using alphabet stamps.
Jolly Phonics: Our 2.5AM and 3PM classes are introduced to Jolly Phonics, which is a fun and child centred approach to teaching literacy through phonics. With actions for each of the letter sounds, the multi-sensory method is very motivating for children.
Ratios: Our 2AM classes have a 1:5 teacher to child ratio. The maximum number of students in a class is 15. Our 2.5AM class has two qualified staff members with a maximum of 16 children. The 3PM class has a maximum of 12 children. In addition, both the 2AM and 2.5AM classes benefit from the participation of duty parents in the classroom.
Extra-curricular: Nottinghill enhances its program by offering outside programming such as multi-sport and Kindermusik as well as a fun-filled field trip to Springridge Farm.
